Default Oil Catch Can for Super Chargered Engines....

Oil vapor is forced out of the cylinder head and redirected through vacuum hoses into the intake stream. The oil vapor then condenses onto the inside surfaces in the intake system. This is especially prominent in the intercooler core. A thin film of oil coating the inside of the intercooler will insulate the air to air exchange and lower the ability of the intercooler to cool the intake air charge.

I am looking at purchasing the following part for my 2008 Mustang GT:

Moroso P/N 85477 - Air-Oil Separator. Fits: Mustang 05 & Up
http://www.moroso.com/catalog/catego...18548&pt=85477

I have a few questions:

1. What material is the filter made of? I've heard stories about the steel wool strands separating and being sucked into the engine?

2. I would like to mount it inline, can I get the unit with straight hose BARB fittings, instead of the 90 degree ones?

3. I also like to get both the 85477/85474 mounting bracket?

4. Are the hoses that is supplied rated for the oil/heat?

PS. The units I'm comparing with are the following? If you have any advice on these, I would appreciate it.

JLT Oil Separator

UPR Oil Separator

http://www.uprproducts.com/mustang-b...-05-black.html

HMS Oil Seperator

http://www.haneymotorsport.com/HMS%2...atch%20Can.htm

What oil catch can do you guy recommend??

PS. Please show pics of where you mounted it.

Response from Moroso Tech Support:

If you would like to have a custom one built, we can do that..
The fittings come 90 deg, anything else would be custom. If you would like to use different mounting brackets you can also order those in additon, but they would not be included in a kit..
There is a steel wool type filter elimate inside but it is not steel wool, it is more so a poly wool, nothing that would cause damage..
But we havent had any issues with it coming apart any way.. We use it in almost all of our breather tanks and air/oil serperators..

The hoses supplied will take the heat no problem.. We have been in business for 42 years. And we do are best to be sure that we supply you and all of our customers with the correct parts for the application..

Thanks and if you have any other questions, please feel free!!

Here's a great thread that has tons of pics and options. But I don't think you can go wrong with that Haney set-up as it seems to be well made along with having a fairly small size. I have been considering that same one for a while now and after going through a couple vented options, I am probably going that route... assuming they are still available.

Keep in mind that you mount them differently for the V6 and V8. The V8 mounts on the driver side and the V6 mounts on the passenger side

I have the UPR billet one on my V6, and it catches a lot of blow by with my Xcharger

The one you linked to is similar inside with the baffling and the "wire", plus it looks like there is a drain in the bottom. With my UPR I have to unscrew it to empty it - not a problem just a difference (I don't think I could get in with a hose to drain it anyway, it is pretty tight on my car)

The UPR is a nice unit. Any filter will work. But there are better filters that will capture more finer oil than others.
I use a Wilkerson oil coalescing filter on one of my hoses, keeping all possible oil out.

you could put one on both sides for both v6 and gt if you wanted to...

yes. it also has a baffle inside to help keep oil leakage to a minimum.
