Anyone installed a Hitch on their stang
#22
I put a hitch on my 02 mustang. It was a Bitch. I used it to tow my dirt bike. I tried to tow may pop up camper and it didn't work, The mustang just wont take the weight in the back. A dirt bike or even a jet sky is ok but any thing bigger and no way. The one I used had a removable toung ball section and I had to go all the way threw the rear bumper which is about 6 inch's thich, and cut a section out of the plastic in the trunk.
So unless you put some micky mouse hitch on the stang, it's a real bitch, and you got to want to do it very bad, + all the crap you take from other mustang guys when they look at the hitch and go WTF dude, get a truck.

I also had a hitch on my '00 GT Vert. Towed light loads and small trailers real good as I used it to chase parts for my 66 I was restoring at the time. Getting one to fit the car is easy....if the car has after market bumpers and/or facias there may be issues. Most Mustangs are rated at 200 lbs tongue weight and 2000 lb. tow rate.
As far as having a truck......not everyone is in a position to have multiple vehicles. So many times it is forgotten that these are cars.......... Now, a restored classic is different.

Did you ever get the hitch? I've been thinking of getting one also. Would help when buying furniture, tools, etc. My household only has my mustang and a focus. I've had to rent the $20 home depot truck 5 times since buying our house a year ago.
Would also come in handy for taking race tires to the track.

I wish someone would design one that mounts behind the bumper and has a U shaped tongue that loops under the bumper. That would be awesome. Completely hidden when you remove the tongue but still there when you need it. I have a stand up jet ski which is only ~300 lbs or less and there are some freerides that i would love to go to but being a 21 year old college student going out and buying a truck is not only not an option, i dont like many trucks at all. A 400 lb trailer with a <50lb tongue weight is nothing any mustang cant handle.
Now if only someone would come up with a solution for us cs/gt500 bumper guys

According to the e-trailer web site....there is one that fits the GT/CS..... I need to get one still.....just been lazy.
The reason for not making them totally hidden....most cars have no room open for the parts to go up behind the bumper plus one would have to lay on the ground to install the draw bar.
I have designed and built a few like that for motorcycles. A real pain but the final look is neat.
