Default Wheel Bearings @ 187,000 Miles?

Trying to keep the preventative maintenance thing going. How long do wheel bearings last? Should I replace now? What's the worst that can happen if they begin to fail - noise?
Thanks in advance.

Holy crap! You must constantly drive your car! Don't know the answer to your question by the way, just had to comment lol.

Thanks in advance.

You will hear noise before they fail catastrophicaly.

You can check them by put the car in the air (corner at a time if you want) grab the wheel and try to move it side to side. If there is play, your bearings are worn and should be replaced.

Any wierd vibrations in your seat when you drive? that's also a sign.

not provided to insult you but is a nice summary.

Wally - That's the usual reaction here. I've been posting updates the last few years on the miles. Slowed the pace down last year or it would have over 200k right now.

Now I feel stupid!! Just kidding. I think I'm good because I don't have any noise or wheel play. Thanks for the info.

As long as there's no signs of galling and everything is tight, all you should need is to repack. I've put well over 200,000 miles on quite a few vehicles with little to no wheel bearing maintenance with no issues.

Our front bearings aren't repackable, sealed units, just replace hub.
Buy as complete assembly when needed.

You have enough miles left when they start to make noise to not leave you stranded, so wait until it happens.
Like previously mentioned, you have to get the whole hub assembly. Not serviceable.
Same with the ball joints... you have to get a new control arm.
That's Ford racketeering for you.

Anyway, glad the car is still doing fine for you.
