IDEA for a new mod:

Ive been looking at guages alot lately. Most of them tell you something important. However, it seems to me that keeping an eye on however many you need to while racing or just driving like you stole it. SO instead of spending a crap ton on guages and mounts, why not condense everything into one unit?

Im not proposing rocket science. With the technology available im convinced it can be done.

What I would love to see would be something that could interface with the OBD-II port and other aftermarket sensors. said unit would be programmable to specific tolerances for any metric the driver deems key- IATs, oil temp, A/f, fuel press, whatev. If any of the said metrics were exceeded, the unit would simply illuminate an 'ABORT' light, indicating to the driver that there is or is going to be something seriously wrong.

I know it seems a lil ridiculous, but the concept to me seems easier than monitoring 8 guages and trying to watch the road.

I get what you're talking about and I think some of the more high end sports exotics have those systems (i.e. reventons, some ferraris?)

But I think the nissan skylines/gtr also have something like that in the form of a smart HUD in the dash that monitors all the cars vitals- I dunno if it interfaces with the OBD-II or anything, but I do know it works directly with some of the sensors (intake, exhaust, fuel, etc.)

Pretty cool tech, but I haven't the faintest clue how to set one up in a mustang LOL.

Check out the link, I believe this is pretty much what you are talking about.

+1 yea they already have that for our cars and people have them.... I have a Scan Gauge II that plugs into the OBD II and reads a ton of info.

The Aeroforce unit is my logic as to how it can be done. But I would like to see 1 unit monitoring all valid metrics(I think the scanguage 2 can cycle between 3 at a given time?) and instead of reading them flashing an abort light instead of 2 little LEDs. Its not a guage. Just a "Youre outside of safe operating conditions so stop safely and turn the motor off" warning

the aeroforce looks interesting...I'm not sure how gauges work and all, but this seems to be able to also do A/F ratio (dunno if wideband, dunno what wideband means)...pretty decent list

RPM
MPH
Intake Air Temperature (post Intercooler)
Ambient Air Temperature (pre Intercooler)
Engine Coolant Temperature
Exhaust Gas Temperature (PCM Calculated)
Transmission Temp. (auto trans)
Manifold Pressure (vacuum/boost) displayed in PSI
Fuel Temperature
Battery Voltage
Battery Temp
Injector Pulse Width in msec.
Injector Duty Cycle (%)
Air Flow Rate into engine
Long Term Fuel Trim
Short Term Fuel Trim
O2 Sensor Voltage
Barometric Pressure
Ignition Advance
Base Spark
PCM Spark Adjust
Fuel Status (open/closed loop)
Wastegate Solenoid Duty Cycle (%)
Knock Retard
Knock Sensor Raw Voltage
Throttle Position Percentage
Throttle Position Sensor Raw Volts
Calculated Net Horsepower
Engine Load
Transmission Slip
Current Transmission Gear
Torque Delivered to Transmission
Torque Converter lockup status
Brake pressure
Brake Booster Travel
Steering Angle
Non-driven Wheel Speed
Lateral G's
Yaw
Fuel economy (instantaneous and average)
P-ratio - pressure ratio MAP/Barometer
2 user configurable analog inputs**
** 0-5v inputs can be configured to read the outputs from MAP sensors, Air/Fuel ratio kits, pressure or temperature sensors, etc. Raw voltage can be displayed or a conversion can be entered to read proper units.

wide band is more accurate, most gauges only show low, Aok, high, only 3 places for the needle to go, Wideband shows a more accurate position of where the needle is. pretty good to detect early problems before the needle hits high or low

its a very decent list for sure. but is this the list of what is compatable with our car, or my car 2011 GT, or is this a list of every thing the aeroG can do period?

great question...I just copied and pasted from the internets...I am N/A right now, but would LOVE to only run one gauge in a ac pod (left side of steering wheel) when going FI...I was going to just run a wideband AF, but if I could incorporate boost, ect, ect I'd hit it...
