Default Best Launch Technique for 11 GT 6sp Manual

I have a 2011 GT with the 6speed manual and 373 rear end. Mods are minimal with Roush axle backs, CAI and BAMA 93 race tune. Hoping to make my very first 1/4 mile passes this weekend and have NO expereince drag racing before. I have not even played that much with this one on the street much. Hoping for some advice on suggested tire pressures if they make a difference, launch RPM, shift points and such to get the most out of it. Just hoping for some fun and excitement and not to emarass myself too much along the way.

Suggestions and feedback please.

You should go to an empty parking lot somewhere or secluded road to practice. Practice is the key. You're not going to be able to just go up there without any experience and have perfect launches, regardless of what someone tells you. Practice and Patience. have fun at the track!

Just like any other 385-400whp'ish s197 car with street tires and a manual. Dumping the clutch is bad instead rev it up and slip the clutch. Start around 3000rpm and work from there IMO. If it bogs then slip the clutch slower or raise the revs up higher.

I've never done a drag race, but I practice this on a road near my house. I can get decent launches with the RPM's around 2500-3000 and slipping the clutch a little. But, what I can't seem to do is to eliminate the wheel hop (2011 GT, Brembo, 6speed). My brother drag races his Trans Am and Corvette. He drove my Stang and did I nice launch with no wheel hop. I can't seem to figure out what he is doing different. What do you guys do to minimize wheel hop (other than the well documented mods)?

And as always the stock tires are crap for this haha.

A good set of tires will go a long way in helping launch!

Default Results of first ever drag race of my 11 GT

Well i Started at 8.78 @ 87mph and got a little better with practice. Best run was a 8.12 @ 93mph. I really do not know how this compares to the quarter mile as quoted in the magazines perhaps someone could shed a little light on this for me on what I should expect in the 1/4 mile?

It was fun especially the last three runs. I had a direct request to run a 2011 Camaro SS that had been lowered and had some drag tires. He clipped me by a 10th the first race, I got him by a 10th last race and the 3rd he decided to race someone else. later I found out he had Full length headers and exhaust, CAI, tune and was spraying NOS. He also did a big burnout each time prior to the race and I avoided the water box and as much tire spin as possible on the stock Pirellis. I feel pretty good considering everything stacked against me.

Keep in mind i am stock with a 3.73 rear, 19" wheels and CAi with BAMA tune and ROush axle backs, pretty much the standard tune for most new GTs these days.

How did I do guys and what should I expect in the 1/4 mile?

That sounds like a high 12, but you can knock almost a full second off of the quarter mile if you upgrade the control arms, add some sticky tires, and drive the wheels off of it! What was your 60-foot on the 8.12. About a 2.0?
