Default Locking Header Bolts

Hey all,

I'm installing some headers on my 05 GT over the Christmas holiday and i'm searching for some hardware.

I've searched through a ton of threads and a lot of talk goes on about the Stage 8 header bolts. But nobody talks about where they got them.

I've done some looking and the Ford Racing Stage 8 header bolts wont fit a 3V, but those are the only ones I have come across.

So where did everyone get their locking header bolts? Specifically the Stage 8 ones?

How difficult was the install of the bolts? Is it a huge PITA to get the retainer and clip on?

How's the look of the bolts? Do the look odd on the headers with the tabs?

How do they work? By looking at them it looks like you line the tab up against the closest primary such that the direction of rotation is blocked by the tabs contact with the primary?

What type of headers are they on?

FYI..............I used the stock bolts and some of the shorter ones included with the pypes LTs. I have checked them a few times and they have never come loose. They have been on for 18 months.

You don't need the stage 8's

I used the hardware that came with mine and they are just fine, there is no need for the stage 8's.

What headers did you get?

I got the American Racing Headers...I hear that they do not come with bolts...So it would be the stock hardware...

I bought the Stage 8 bolt kit from summit racing. I didnt use them all because on the JBA's, specifically first header pipe prevented me from fitting the bolts in the flange holes. There was not enough clearance so I used a shorter bolt. I also reused a couple stock studs and nuts. And to use the locking clips on some of the bolts seemed impossible. So I did not even use them lol. Waste of 50 bucks. But the bolts themselves are good quality though. I installed JBA long tubes on my 05GT.

I used the factory hardware at first but it wouldn't stay tight. So I ended up using Percy's stainless Split Lock header bolts, P/N 760-21010 from Jegs. For some reason they're not listed there now though, maybe you can find them elsewhere. I was able to install and lock all 16 of them although there were a few that were a challenge. The Stage 8's looked like more of a pain with the little clips plus I didn't want the clips rubbing against the header tubes.
Good luck with whatever you use. It'll be a hassle however you go.

I just ordered Stage 8's and a Percy Gaskets from Jegs today. Free shipping and it'll be delivered Friday. Cant beat that. I was going to order the Percy Split Locks like Hack Job mentioned but they quit making them. I called Percy and confirmed that today. They are working to bring something else to market soon. Thats all the info they would give me over the phone.
