a friend of mine is thinking about buying a mustang and his debating between a 07-09 shelby gt500 or the new 5.0. what should i tell him him to get?

It depends on how much he wants to spend. The GT500 is 550hp for those years and '13 GT is 420hp. If he's looking for HP and performance, the GT500 is best. If he want's looks, IMO they are about even.

I had the same dilemna and went the GT500 route just recently. I don't regret it for a second.

We went GT500 on that choice too.
More power and speed out of the box, more room to add performance, cheaper to mod, and getting to be a part of the great Shelby heritage.

We drove many new 5.0's.
Love our choice, would NEVER look back, and will keep this car forever.

More power on paper but on the road the 5.0 gives the GT500 a run for its money

Personally I love the 07-09 gt500s, they look so damn mean. I just don't really care for the newer body style gts, but they're still nice though. The gt500s have so much potential with that 5.4 what I think it's like 525-575 rwhp with minor bolt ons and a tune. That's nuts.

1) GT500 gets more style points.

2) GT500 comes with forged rotating assembly, which equals several thousand dollars saved if he ever wants to up the horsepower/torque.

and a better transmission too.

just make sure you get a low mileage, non-raced gt500.


the plus side to the 13 GT is its new.

you cant go wrong with either one.
