Default My alternator died, options for new ones?

Its a 2007 GT
Alternator died and left my car stranded ~15 miles from home last night (great way to start the year!)
Charged up the battery and drove it home so its safe and sound in our shop but I need to order a new alternator.
I have an upgraded stereo (750W Kicker amp and will ba adding another couple hundred watts eventually) so upgrading the wattage of the alternator would be a plus but I also dont want to kill myself on cost.
What options are there? I see American Muscle has a PA 200W alt for $350+50 wire upgrade. While it seems like a good part the price is a bit steep. Any recommendations?

OP,

Sorry to hear you got left stranded 15 miles from home. That must have been really frustrating!

As far as price on our PA Performance alternators- I can help take the edge of the pricing with our 6% forum discount. All you need is 50+ posts to receive the code and you're far ahead of that. If you don't already have the code, shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to help you out!

So what if it is remanufactured? Most alts are overhauls and work just as good. Plus it is half the cost?

The new one can fail just as easily as a refurb.

I'd go with the PA alternator only because even Ford's upgraded replacement, even though better than the factory OE alternator, hasn't seemed robust enough IMO.

does anyone know what the stock alt puts out? the pa alt on AM says its improved but doesnt mention any numbers vs stock. Seeing as I have a decent sized sub and amp I should probably add a better alt but if the 130 amp one is a small improvement I may just stick with it and save the $100

I am researching this same topic. My OEM went out at about 50,000 miles. its now on its 3rd Auto Zone reman 12,000 miles and little over a year later. I also have aftermarket stereo equipment (1200 watt sub plus 50x2 on fronts) but figure since that has been in the car since it was a week old and oem alt lasted so long, a greater amp alt in not neccessary. Just one that will last at least as long. I also have been looking at PA performance on American Muscle. I notice the higher 200 amp one is only warrantied a year and wonder if it is less durable by design than the 135amp. What did you end up getting OP? There are several negative reviews on AM for the PA alts which are making me nervous. At least when my autozone crap fails, I can have a free replacement in my hand in an hour.
