I've used this with some success, much better than the paint pens but not as good as a real repair though.

Exactly.
You have an easy color to match for one thing and some dealers contract their bodywork...
So those two facts together is a win/win.
When our cars were new, only Tungsten was a pain to match.
Now that these cars are over 5 years old, all bets are off.
That's why I advise my customers to not bother with pre-paint stuff anymore.
