4.6 is a great engine, love my 3v, but you wont reach 500rwhp unless you go FI, and at that point youll want forged internals

Clearly the best solution here is to just not race them and enjoy your car and your money that is sitting in the bank. Chicks dig money and S197's bro. I've never seen a girl go crazy for an old grand prix that's torque steering all over the damned road.
Best damn post I have seen in months well said. On the topic of chicks love S197's I was cruising down the interstate the other day. Just minding my own business listing to the V8 with the windows down. Then I get blind sided by a car full of girls screaming we love your Mustang.

500 whp is a completely unrealistic wish.

Roughly, you'd be building a small displacement version of a NASCAR engine . . . at anywhere from $45k to $80k or so. And it'd be down on power after a while and need to be torn down and 'refreshed' every few thousand miles. Your peak power would be somewhere above 8500 rpm, it'd be a dog at 2500, and it would not be the easiest thing to get launched.

All that to hopefully beat a handful of random GTP owners???

Something else to consider, a stock auto won't handle 500RWHP for long. The 5R55S has several weak components that even behind a pretty stock motor start wearing.

Grand prix gtp is ubber gay. If I had a 10 second grand prix, I wouldn't tell anyone and on the street it's going to just spin and spin and spin and torque steer you into on coming traffic.

I say scrap the whole idea of 500 hp, it is insane to expect that from a 4.6 without forced induction or a lot of nitrous. 350 to the wheels would be nice with a few bolt ons. Wanting to beat a few grand prixs isn't going to change anything... When/if you win, they are just going to throw on a bigger pulley or add some more timing and race again and win. Overall, you are just going to be throwing money at a car just to win a few races...

Get an exhaust, lower control arms, CAI, tune, and whatever else. This will get you a nice looking car and will make them jealous because you have something that a lot of people like... a Mustang. Nobody likes grand prixs anyway

W-body guys think 15 second in the 1/4th is worth bragging. Now for every second you subtract from that, their douchebaggery enlarges proportionately. As others have said, only people on earth who care they outran a Mustang in a w-body are the incredibly few people who modify w-bodies.

I used to haunt the w-body forums and believe me, it takes alot more to make those cars get up and go than people let on. plus the GM 3800 Series 2/3 V6 is a giant unreliable piece of crap that leaks oil out of every damn gasket. Those guys hate any bottom end work done because anything but factory work makes the engines even more unreliable. Iron block/roots blower is recipe for unbelievable heatsoak. Those cars overheat like you wouldn't believe. Biggest nasty word on their forums is KR (knock retard). That phrase is their worse enemy.
