Default New Brakes

Hey Guys,

I replaced my brakes. But they squeal like crazy. The funny thing is, it only appears to happen after they "warm up". For the first few brakes there is no sounds, but after that it just gradually gets worse. The squeal is the same as those braks that indicate that your brakes need to be changed. Is this typical of new brakes?

Did I forget to do something when I put them on? (no they are not on backwards, that would have been really hard to do with these and would be a completely different noise. And yes, the back breaks were checked and didn't need replaced.)

They are really getting annoying so I want to fix them ASAP.

Thanks.

I bought the NAPA ones. I thought the cheaper route might be to blame but no one would buy these if they made this noise from the start. So I wondered about a break-in period. After a week, the break-in period should be over.

Did you do the bed in procedure when you installed the pads?

Check with napa for the bed in process. Every brand is different.

What is the bed process? I may have done it and didn't realize it was called that.

If I had to guess, your pads are probably glazed over...Did you do new rotors and new pads? Did that on both my old Camry and my wife's Camry and neglected to bed the pads on both, and they both squealed like crazy, and upon removal found out the pads had abnormal wear. Replaced the pads and they were fine.

Typically, you want to do a few moderately abrupt stops from say 25mph. Then a few very abrupt stops from like 45mph. Let the breaks cool completely. And, maybe a couple more moderate stops. This is just off the top of my head. If you were to buy hawk pads, the box has the procedure inside.

What does that mean glazed over? I replaced the pads but resurfaced the rotors.
