The general term is corrosion.
On steel it's basically called rust but on other metal like aluminum, copper etc... Corrosion is the common term.
Aluminum is very prone to corrode and substances like salt for example, can really put a hurt to it in a short manner.
@winkawak: Your Ford dealer should warranty their work so they'd have all the reasons in the world to take the correct steps to do a good job.
I usually wouldn't recommend Dealers for body work but as a TSB you have to go to them...

Not taking sides, but first off, THANK YOU for pointing out that there could be issues with other peoples cars. Its good to have a comunity that looks out for eachother. second, you let us know, no need to beat us over the head with it. 3rd, Cmon people. dont bash the OP because hes trying to help us all out. "get a civic"? really? grow up. Lastly, its a known issue and any ford dealership will honor this under the 3/36k warranty. so its all good if youre under warranty. if youre 4 years out, or 37k miles? and you didnt do a massive inspection before your warranty dropped? your fault.
GL with the repairs and see you around!

Ive had 6 mustangs, 3 explorers, couple f150s and a couple other random fords. I havent had paint problems except a 97 v6 that the rear quarter passenger side the clear was oxidizing. Wrecked that car though so it didnt matter. I would say that every manufacturer has qc issues. Ive seen foreign and domestics with paint issues. Sorry youve had a bad experience with ford and best of luck on your next manufacturer.
