It's sad as it seems Ford is almost trying to "phase out" the V6 option completely. After having test driven both, I'd personally take a V6 over an Ecoboost (if the GT wasn't an option for me).
(As we all know by now) The V6 Cyclone engine is a killer V6 and if Ford slapped a dual-Ecoboost on one it'd be a mini-monster.
Ford isn't trying to phase out the V6, it is a popular fleet car, the sell a ton to rental car companies. They are using the lack of options for the V6 to encourage those who want a Mustang with more options to go EcoBoost or GT. Europe and other new markets for the Mustang are only given 2 options for power, EcoBoost or 5.0 V8.

Just because rental car companies buy the cheapest option doesn't mean it's not being phased out, especially since it's not available in Europe. Ford not offering any premium options on the V6 as well as lowering the horsepower compared to the 2011-2014 to make the Ecoboost more appealing, is a pretty odd way of "supporting" it.
I don't want the V6 to die as the Cyclone engine is very nice, but Ford sure does have a funny way of "supporting" the V6 by cutting options.

By discouraging customers from going V6 by limiting options to push the Ecoboost, the V6 will sell less, Ford can then turn around and say "Oh, hey, the sales figures for the V6s are way down - should we really waste money and space by keeping it in production?".

So is the reduction in horsepower an issue of tuning? If so, can a computer tune alone bring the horses back up a bit? I'm not really interested in dropping a bunch of money on hardware, but if I can tune some of the horses they've taken out of it I'd certainly consider it.

A tune alone won't be much power gains. It's all about dialing in everything you put on. But if it's an auto you will notice a lot just from the different shift points and higher pressures.

Ahh well, it was a though. I guess I'm so used to driving a 4 banger Fusion that I'm thrilled with the V6 despite the fact that it appears Ford might be pushing it to the wayside. Such a shame since it's at the right price point for a lot of people and some, like myself, would rather have a V6 than a charged i4 anyway. Thanks for the reply!

From several places the V6 is Dead I own a 2016 with 3K of upgrades which was still cheaper at time than a 4cy hair drier. Would love to see them do dual eco boost V6 but then they would be higher output than the V8 which we all know they wont do! > Mad
