Default 351 in an SN95

Any special considerations to take when putting a 351 in this model car? I've heard that the SN95 bracketry WILL bolt right on to the 351, as with the 351 in the Cobra R. Also, are there any model years that won't require you to change the flywheel and the damper if you buy the motor complete? Thanks

The 351w is a drop in swap. They all have 28 oz balancers and flywheels. If you want a manual trans you will have to buy the correct flywheel. I don't think the truck manual flywheel will work in a mustang. The front brackets will all bolt up. You may have to clearance the passenger side valve cover or clearance the alternator to fit. You will need swap headers and a few other minor items.

Awesome, those were my two biggest concerns. The flywheel I'll be able to get from Ford Racing, and I know about all of the other parts. I'm glad to hear that the bracketry will all bolt right up too. I wonder if I'll even be able to run the same belt...Question though, will I need to space out the balancer or is designed to just drop in exactly? Everything sounds pretty good to me. Looks like I'll be picking up a motor pretty soon then. Thanks for the help.

If you run the Ford Racing SFI balancer you will need a spacer. Not sure on some of the other balancers. Stock balancer you won't need a spacer. Sorry, can't run the same belt.

Awesome. Again, thanks for the help, I'll keep in touch, I'm sure I'll have some more questions, but everything sounds good. Doesn't seem like all that difficult a swap. Hooker even makes headers that will bolt right up to my current exhaust. I'll have to decide what intake to use. The Professional products 351 lower with the Typhoon upper seems like it would be a good combo. I will be driving this car about 50 miles to work every day so I want it pretty streetable. I do plan on putting some big heads on it however. Just how big, we'll see, but I'm thinking RHS 200s (a little better than an AFR 185, with more torque down low). I'll let you know how things go.

I have a question: the firing order on a 351W is different (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8) than a 302 (1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8). If you want to be carbureted, all you have to do is swap the wires on the cap and voila!

HOWEVER, if you want to keep your sequential EFI setup, like this gentleman is talking about with the Typhoon (good choice by the way [sm=smiley20.gif], how does one match up the firing order to the injection pulse? You can still swap the firing order on the cap, and it will run, but it won't make NEARLY as much power as it could/should. This I know.

The fix, obviously, is a different ECM, right? I'm SURE there's a conversion kit/package out there, isn't there? OR...what OEM ECM's would be compatible with the EEC-IV that 94-95 SN95's run? OR, can you reprogram your computer to pulse he injectors in the right order?

THAT'S what a brother needs to know, 'cause I'm thinking of the same dang swap, but I want to iron out the sequential fuel injection issue before I put both feet in, because I want the drivability/tunability/power-making ability of EFI.

SOMEBODY'S got to be all over that, because it's just too easy otherwise - all those cubes, longer stroke, torque, thicker block webbings, stronger all around rotating assembly (on and on it goes!) and all you REALLY need is a wider lower intake, different headers (maybe) and maybe a different oil pan.

The EFI or carb doesn't determine the firing order. The camshaft does. Later model cars use the 302 HO firing order. The computers are also setup based on it. That firing order is the same as the 351w for 82-up 302 ho and 351w motors. 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

then u ought to be able to drop it in the new edge cars too right? since the sn95 and new edge have the same chassis and the blocks are originally the same. is this right?

The 99 and up will have to have a new K-member or a V6 K-member. The 05 and up it is not a direct swap. The windsor block a mod motor blocks aren't the same. Also the wiring and several other key components are completely diferent.

ain't I the dummy? This is right I have found out, so EFI is not an issue. Direct drop in with some add-ons
