so 650 should be safe on a 69 block?
thanks, even though I might not ever go that high, but you never know
It can hold it if it's built correctly.

I would trust a late model block up to about 650. The difference between the '69 and a modern roller 351 is about 100hp. Like I previously stated, I have seen 69 blocks split at about 650hp, but I attribute that to poor machining, just my opinion. That is one thing you should not cut corners on is the machine work on ANY motor. But if you are going to build a good stroker then you need to come correct on the machine work or you will wish you had.

check the casting number on the heads.. see if it says C9OE or D0OE
Ok, I've finally checked the casting number on my heads, they're both D0OE. Everything looks to be in good condition, butthe heads and blockhave some surface rust from sitting in a shed for 20 years. How much should I expect to pay for good machining on the block? And are the heads worth getting reconditioned or should I just cough it up and buy some new AFR's?

edit: when I say good, I mean good. I'm probably going to be throwing on a power adder once I get everything running and I'd rather my block not split on me

it varies by shop. But here i got a Quote for $350CAD. this included bore .030", deck, acid wash, new freeze plugs and cam bearings, and checking over the block completely. So i am not to sure where you are, but for a good job i would pay about 350-300 here.

Block is a C9, but the heads are D0OE.

Are the heads worth getting reconditioned or should I just cough it up and buy some new AFR 225's?

it cost me about 360 for boring, acid wash, magnafluxed, cam bearings, freeze plugs, and also had the heads acid dipped, magnafluxed, vlave seats re ground, valves refaced.

and i paid another 110 to get the rotating assembly balanced.

hope this help kura
