351W with Edelbrock top end kit anyone?
I've got a 90 Mustang LX originally a 5.0. I bought it about 6 mos. ago (my first mustang.) It came from an auction and there was no info on cam size etc. So I'm not sure exactly what's in there other than it's definately not stock. Here's the breakdown of what Ive determined I have and what I'm planning to do: Right now it has a 79 351W, aftermarket cam, 289 heads with aluminum rockers of some type(not sure what valve sizes, also not sure why in the world someone would put 289 heads on a 351, unless for higher compression?), aftermarket headers, edelbrock manifold, 750 holley carb, MSD billet distributer, MSD ignition box (6A) and coil. Other than the engine, I have 3.73 gears and a rebuilt t-5. So there is potential. Other than that I assume the motor has had a rebuild somewhere along the way.
Here's the plan: Pull the heads, cam, lifters, intake, and put the Edelbrock performer RPM top end kit on the engine (comes with Aluminumheads, Perf. RPM intake, cam, lifters, timing chain, & all the gaskets. The one I was looking at produces around 400hp or so. Has any one installed one of these Edelbrock kits on either a 302 or 351W?

400 flywheel hp or rear wheel? I had the eddy rpm heads on my 302 and they were great, but if you shop around a little, I think you would do yourself some justice to get a used set of twisted wedge heads at bare minimum, a better intake if you are really wanting to spin it up a little, and a good xe series cam from comp.(just call them and let them rec the cam for you, they are pretty good)the twisted wedge heads are something that can grow with your combo through t.e.a. or fox lake(porting) as you search for more and more hp.
I think you will probably see about 375 rwhp with the combo you are looking at though, so pretty nice street pounder none the less. good luck.

Nice pic tazman03, car sounds mean. What size pushrods did you end up using? I called Edelbrock and they said use the stock length but hardened because of the guides. (8.15?)

Yes sir.... stock length chrome molly. I learned the hard way about needing the hardend steel ones. The first time I just warped alot of them. then they starting shaving after I replaced them with Melling standard 351W pushrods. I want to say they were 8.182" or something. I had it written down. They also recomend using true roller rockers for clearencing issues, but I used comp cams roller tip 1.6 rockers and didnt have a problem (yet). They are wearing just off center of the valve stems so I dont see an issue.
The cam specs are on my build page. I have it idled really low and the timing wasnt set 100% when I took that video. Everyone was antsy about pics/video so I threw one up quick.

I ordered the Edelbrock kit, rockers, and so on from Summit. I held off on the pushrods and ordered the pushrod measurement tool from Comp Cams just to be sure on the length. Thanks for the info on the Chrome moly pushrods. Sounds like a good idea.

no problem Dont fault you for being safe and checking everything before throwing it together. Edlebrock specified 1.6 Roller Rockers and stock length hardend push rods in their paper work. plus I called to double check. I ended up using just roller tip rockers instead of true rollers and they work fine. they just specify "true Rollers" for clearencing issues, which I didnt seem to have any with what I used. (comp cams 1.6 roller tips) Keep me up dated or start a build page.
Sorry I was offline for a bit. Trailered the car home and was without a comp. for few days.
