351 or 347 (351 section)
So what do u guys think is better the 351w swap or the 347 stroker I'm trying to decide what I want to do with my car right now it's a 92 lx vert 5.0 h.o. Car and I plan on driving it so 1 what is more reliable 2 what can I get more performance out of with less money and 3 what is the best for the street this car will prolly never see the track I just want to have fun with it

If you do nothing to the 351 then I'd say 347. Now if you stroke the 351 then I id say 351
I have seen many 347 run down a built 351 and I have seen 302 run down 347
So if you have a well thought put plan and do it right any motor could be what you want

if you are not looking to make over 500 hp and pile lots of boost or NOS on it. and not looking to stroke the 351 then I also would say 347 but if you are looking to make over 500 hp and gone to race it a good bit I would say 351 all day long..

Couple pennies here...if you're gonna build a 347 stroker, then why not just get a stroker kit for the 351? If you're gonna get a spare 302 block to build so you can still drive your car, then why not get a 351 block? Both will need machining right? You're gonna need gaskets, hardware, etc...right? I'm sure you're gonna get aftermarket parts...headers, distributor, X/H-pipe, intake, etc...right? Basically I'm just saying that everything you're gonna have to do to build a 347 stroker is exactly what you'd have to do to stroke a 351.
However if you're planning a quick low-budget build for now and wanna use your 302 block and all the stock components with plans to upgrade later, then I'd say go with a 347. Because then you'd save money by using the stock intake, distributor, exhaust, oil pan, etc. But if this is a project that you're gonna take your time to put together then you might as well do a 351. The other posts are good advice, I'm just a fan of larger engines!!

Venomantidote95...yea it just might be you. A 351W conversion would cost more but if you know where to look and what to buy then it would be an insignificant amount more. However the hp/tq gains from doing a 351W would very well offset the small amount of extra money you'd spend. Yes I've done research, I've priced parts (used and new), I've considered both. End of the day tho, a stroked 351 for the cost is WELL worth the extra money.

Stroked yes 351cuin hell no. but pending yr of the car you can build 2 347s for ur 351 stroker swap! That is not worth it to me. Whan I built my 347 over the 408 ive wanted for a long time the diff in price was 2100 more than the 347 I have now. Ive done the homework many times aswell.

Venomantidote95...how do you figure all this? What sites have you checked that you're getting those prices?
Speedway Motors: 347 stroker kit - 1149.99 / 396 stroker kit - 1099.99
AMP Performance: 331 or 347 short block - 3299 / 393 or 408 short block - 3599
AMP Performane: 331 or 347 long block - 5699 / 393 or 408 long block - 6899
CHP: 347 kit - 819.99 to 1145.99 / 427 kit - 1189.99 to 1849.99 (they can even do a 438!!)
CHP short blocks: 347 - 1946.99 / 427 - 2662.99
CHP long blocks: 347 - 3976.99 / 427 - 5274.99
So where are you getting your prices from? I mean yea if you compare a cheap 347 stroker to an expensive 427 long block then I can see your point. However as far as prices along the same level are concerned, it's not a significant difference. Especially considering the power you can get from a 427 vs a 347. If you got the CHP long block 427 you'd pay about 1300 dollars more than the price for the 347. Still to make up the difference in power compared to a similarly built 347 you'd have to spend more than 1300 dollars anyway. So dollar for dollar it is worth it.
