as far as a carb intake goes, there is not really a best one . . the intake should match the engine . . you may need a std dual plane or a high rise dual plane or open plenum etc. for your app.

the best thing to do is first determine how much money you have for not only the engine but also the exhaust and possible suspension mods.

the next thing is to determine what the intended use is and how wild you want it.

if you want a 600 hp drag engine but only have 3,000.00 for everything it simply isn't going to happen.

ok, well the second fastest auto cross car in the us has a 302 engine with a carb and around 300 hp and crummy looking spray can stock 68 valve covers and revs to around 5800 rpm.

Well **** I plan to try and make mine faster one way or another with efi or carb whichever works for me and I'll be reinforcing the car as well to keep from twisting it

if you paln to do auto cross and drifting, efi all the way and you don't need loads of power, I live close to a premier auto cross track in this area, ask the mazda miata guys about power vs the track..lol, you want a little more power do a 347 in a stock block keep rpms below 6500 and shoot for 350-400 rwhp which is a breeze in a 347 and it'll be fine for your needs, suspension should be a bigger expense.thought out deal for your intentions

I actually go to school with a kid who wrecked a miata drifting and he crushed the whole rear corner but he also had the thing built to about 300-400 HP

I realized something last night... I'm a big power junkie and just want more if I'm smart I should go ahead fix the vert then sell it in spring to get a different 5.0 that's a coupe with a 5-speed a and build that to make it easier to make safer and everything (only reason I got the car to begin with was cause mom wouldn't let me get what I wanted to start with in a fox body gt with a 5-speed and about 100,00 miles cause it was to old or something like that or a 94 gt with a 5-speed and about 167,000 miles) now I should just go ahead and fix my transmission to drive like it should and clean up the car fix the suspension and maybe find some different front seats at a minimum

+1 ^^^

That's the best decision you can make. Just buy one that's already close to what you want. There's no shortage of built Foxs up here, and you'll have saved a ton of money compared to doing it all yourself.

I'm doing a similar cube build right now. Afr 205 heads edelbrock Vic efi intake and custom cam. Tuning with pms4. Like said about a 331/347 would be more cost effective and most likely wrinkle your fenders all the same auto-crossing. To handle the course and power you need bracing and suspension also.
