Hi, I have a 2006 V6 with a S&B air intake and Ford racing deal exhaust.
I was wondering what a good simple "tuner "would be to give me a little
more punch. Thanks

well if you want the best bang for you buck for the cost of a tuner, you'd want a throttle body or gears. that will give you alot more throttle response, will a tuner help, yes, if you ever plan on getting it dyno'd find out which one you'll go to and get the one they use, that way you wont' have to buy two. SCT seems to be real common and helps a good bit i hear. my vote, gears/TB

A standalone CAI doesn't do squat (MAYBE 3-6 RWHP on a V6) w/o a tune. The tune would likely triple that or more.
Exhaust's do nothing on the S197 unless you do headers and lose the cats.
Use the search feature and I'm sure you'll find all the power adder info you can read. Bottom line: you can dump a ton of money into a V6 and still not get close to the stock GT in performance unless you go FI. If you can, trade up.

Thanks for input, I have the stock 3.31 gears now. I was thinking about
the 3.73 gears. What will that do to my RPM.s and does it mean I will
have to shift quicker.?
Get a CAI/Tuner from a reputable tuner first. Do NOT get a throttle body, they do nothing for our cars. Gears will not give you the same feel or quickness that a tuner will, and gears will not eliminate the throttle lag.
CAI/Tuner first, then gears second.
3.73 gears are great for our 6er's, the rpm's will go up, and you will have to shift quicker because you get up into the RPM's faster. Plus you will need a tuner to adjust for the different gears otherwise your speedo will be off.

The single V6 muffler is very restrictive, so even adding a single GT take-off muffler will release about 7 rwhp on the 4.0L. From there, adding duals will look better, but not necessarily add any add'l HP.
In terms of performance, bolt-on N/A 4.0L's can get into the low 14's. I did it with my 2006 PP 5spd coupe, and ran a best ET of 14.312 against a S197 GT. Guess what? I beat that GT in the 1/8th mile, and that same day beat several older GT's in the 1/4 mile. Is a 14-sec V6 blistering fast? Not really, but it ain't too shabby either. Adding forced induction to the 4.0L is a viable option, but keep in mind there's always somebody faster than you, and you can dump enough money into any car to make it quick. It all depends on what you want out of your car. The path you take to get there is up to you. I agree with ODDYSEY's comment - tune 1st, gears 2nd. I ran 4.10's in that coupe, and still got 27mpg on the highway.
