Does this happen with anyone else's T5?
okay, I installed a Hurst billet competition shifter last year with my friend at his shop. I love it, its a great improvement over the stock shifter, but I noticed something: Third gear is evil
Whenever I am racing whether it be from a dig or from a pull sometimes it literally bounces out when im trying to put it into third, like theres a stupid thing blocking me or something from shifting it. I know the T5 is a clunky trans,
but this kinda gets annoying I think its because everything got moved over towards me and im probably sticking it in between 1st and 3rd or 3rd and 5th but is there a way to solve this? or do I just need to work at it?

This has not only to due with the T5 being a notchy shifting transmission but has more to do with the remote shifting mechanism in all S197 Mustangs. What happens is under load the transmission rotates slightly on the motor mounts from the torque of the engine. The back of the shifter is mounted to the body of the car so it does not move. This causes and alignment problem which leads to binding in the shift mechanism, Like GreyPony stated, a CHE K-member brace with torque limiters will help. Or urethane motor mounts.

Mine does it too.
Anytime I race or get into it at all third is the hardest gear to get into.
Luckily when I bought my car I got an extended warranty, so its in the shop as we speak getting the transmission fixed. Although it is going to be 10 days before I get her back.
