Squeak from rear end! Any suggestions/experience?
Hey all, I have the most annoying squeak from the rear end and was wondering if anyone has had any sort of experience with this. I'll try to do my best explaining when it happens.
A little background...I just put in an 8.8 rear axle in my 4.0 in preparation for my V8 swap, and that's about when it started. It makes a distinct squeak sound when going over bumps driving at any speed. It also makes the sound when the car squats while shifting. Seems to get worse the longer you drive the car...the sound most compares to a squeaky spring mattress.
I used a professional lift to have my car up in the air when I did the 8.8 swap, and I thought that maybe tightening all the bolts while the car was lifted up NOT resting on the suspension may cause a squeak when the weight of the car IS on the suspension. So I put the rear axle on jacks and loosened up everything and tightened it back up, squeak still there.
Its really annoying the s*** out of me! The other day I had it parked on a slanted curb, and it made the noise when you pushed up and down on the rear of the car. I got underneath and had some one push on it and it SEEMED like it was coming from the bushings where the lower control arm bolts to the axle. Thats my most recent guess though, and I have yet to try anything. Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to be as specific as possible! Thanks for any ideas/ help guys!
