Default Mustang Gear Swap Out

I have a 2006 Mustang V6 (manual) and am looking to swap gears out. Just looking on opinions/experience with the 3.73 and the 4.10s. I'm wondering how high my Rpms will be on the highway and how often I will be shifting through all the gears

Thanks

Are you swapping for the 8.8" rear end? It is cheaper to swap rear ends than it is to try to find the 7.5" gears and pay someone to install them properly, plus you get the Tlok rather than the 7.5" open diff.

This is what I'm looking at for right now... my car has approx. 140k on it, so I think this will be the last of my upgrades on the car. The shop quoted me 350 for install on the gears alone. I figure the gears/bearing kit plus install alone will be around 750. The posi will be another 411 not including install. Is swapping rear ends cheaper than $1300-$1500?

Basically what I'm looking for is two things: 1. Will I be shifting every two seconds with the 4.10s and
2. Will my car be redlining on the highway in 5th gear @ 85 mph?

I have the same questions myself. 2007 V6, manual. Tending towards 3.73 and having the gears and posi installed, but don't know anybody I am sure is really good. I am tempted to do it myself, but realize it the install is critical. My thought is it is art/science and experience to do it right.

Anyone know a good resource for install on front range? Or might do 8.8 swap if I find one with the 3.73, what was stock on the GT's?

Same concerns about going too high with the 4.10s as original poster.

I have the 8.8 with 4.10's and auto trans.
I mostly drive in town. Rarely on the interstate.
2700rpm at 75mph on highway.
I purchased the 8.8 with 3.73's.
The 3.73's developed a coast whine, so I had
the 4.10's installed. The 4.10's are quiet.

Yes, you can pick up an 8.8" rear end and swap it for less. Several places you can go, including ebay. But check with car-part.com for your area and you may find one with 3.73 gears. If it is from a 2011+ it may even have the correct pinion flange already installed.

Thanks for the quick replies. I will look into swapping - I'm not that mechanically inclined so there's no way that I could do any of that on my own.

Thanks RLS82959 for the highway speed/RPM 75@2700 RPM, isn't that bad... I'm guessing 85@ 3000-3200? That's what most people drive where I'm at and what I'm used to driving.

@ JJHoover:
You beat me to the links! lol

@ maartyrr:
Since you are spending 1300$$$ on the 7.5, why not pay just about the same and get the 8.8. with a T-LOK. That's pretty much the reason I did the 8.8 swap.
And my 7.5 3.73's had a bit of a whine especially at highway speeds, my 8.8 4.10's have a teenie whienie whine its so quiet it sounds cool.
The Links are Legit. I got mine shipped from Georgia to MI for about 950 total. Excellent rear end except put new gasket material on before you fill her up with gear oil bc mine leaked. And the guy made sure the pinion flange was on for me. In fact he wouldn't let me buy it if I were to put that flange on myself; overtightening the pinion flange can screw a rear end up. So yeah, reputable links there dude. The only thing I didn't get was the sway bar, funny bc the listing said "comes with everything pictured"

This is the one I got:

I didn't get the dog lol
