Default nOOb Gets The Runaround

I'm having a problem with my 2000 GT. When I turn on my defrost, the car starts to stutter like it's out of gas. (I know it sounds crazy, but I had two other people ride with me to validate the problem).

I took it to a mechanic, who ran a diagnostic, and he said the stuttering was due to a "computer glitch". I then turned around and took it to the dealership I bought it from, and they said the mechanic doesn't have a diagnostic machine made specifically for Fords, and when they ran their own diagnostic, the problem lied elsewhere. The dealership took my car in and said they "reset" something on the engine's computer, but the problem remains.

My questions are: Any ideas on the engine stuttering? Is there a diagnostic computer made specifically for Fords, or is my dealership serving me a ration of BS?

Thanks in advance!

Check your A/C compressor. It might be locking up.

How would you check that exactly?

Unhook the A/C electrical connector on the compressor, and then see if it still does the same thing when he turns on the defroster. If the problem goes away, it is his A/C compressor locking up.

Definitely tied to the A/C in some manner. It may be the computer isn't compensating for the extra load the A/C causes to your engine by increasing the idle speed. I'm not 100% what controls this, but I'm looking to find out. Does anyone know if the IAC is involved?
