Default Steering Wheel Shakes

I have a 2004 GT and I have noticed that within the past few months when I'm crusing around 65-70mph and I have to put on the brakes the steering wheel shakes a little from left to right. Does anyone know why this may be happening? I have talked with a mechanic and he said that it may be that the rotors are warped. He said that the rotors can get warped when you're driving fast then you have to put the brakes on real hard. It's a result of a dramatic change in temperature. Or it can happen when you apply the brakes hard when you're running through high water. Well neither one has really happened to me but the steering wheel is certainly shaker some. Does anyone have any remarks?

If it only happens when you apply your brakes, then the rotors are warped.

ya mine does that too. you probably either need your tires balanced or rotated.

most likely tires, could be front end suspension.. if its when your breaking could be lots of things.. loose bolt on a caliper will do it (and vibrate the pedal as well), warped rotors, etc.. Just get'em balanced and rotated and see if it goes away.

Thanks guys. I sure hope that what ever it is, it's not too expensive.

My alignment in screwed up, so my steering wheel shakes.... But its no Maxima, its a V8, the wheel is going to shake regardless.

rotors, hands down. a tire balance or suspension problem would be there with the brakes on or off.
