Default Undrive Pulley/Oil Leak Question

I have BBK underdrive pulleys and the first time i put them on i did not know you had to permatex the crank after you put it on. Well it leaked oil last year and i finished my PI swap and permatexed the Crank pulley and it still leaks. I am positive its coming out of there because the cover has oil on it all around it. Should i just go back to the stock pulley or what?? Anyone else have this problem ?? Suggestions please.

So you went back and sealed the key way and it's still leaking?

Have you replaced your front main seal ever??

Also, I don't understand why you would put Permatex on the pulley itself.. Is this something new?? I'm not trying to be a dick, just wondering the procedures..

i dunno why you would need to permatex the pulley... it's probably your front main seal which is pretty simple to do once that pulley is off

dude I just replaced my oil pan gasket and my rear main, and I believe my front main is starting to go. Take off the pulley and see if it is leaking by the seal where it goes into the front cover... if so you need to replace that seal. can be done with the pulley off... and BTW how many miles on ur engine?

Can you do front main seals w/ out dropping the pan on a 4.6?? Never done one before..

Oh, and it sounds like you need to permatex the area where the keying is on the pulley (I think that's what Dan04COBRA) was eluding to...

What exactly is the front main seal??? Your oil pan gasket or that seal where the crank is on your front cover??

you pull the crank pulley off. Look at the shaft, it's the seal in the front cover. And no you should not have to drop the pan, i checked all data and shopkey and you just need a seal remover and then a piece of pipe the size of the new seal to tap it in.
