Look what I found..... SOLID LIFTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.razorsedgemotorsports.com...roducts_id=316

I think some people didnt really read this post fully. Sorry but SOHC and DOHC 4.6 modulars have hydraulic lifters. They serve the same purpose as they do on pushrod motors. They adjust valve lash.

I think I am guilty of this once or twice... it is just so darned hard to NOT call them lifters! I mean they sort of LOOK like lifters and they are part of the timing system...I am used to the old pushrods with those hydraulic lifters. True, they are called "hydraulic lash adjusters"... which makes sense since they really don't "lift" anything. Now where did I put those PI heads that came stock on my Cobra? [sm=guilty.gif]

Hydraulic Lash Adjuster is the correct name. Lifter would be the slang name. They don't perform the exact same duty as the lifter in a OHV engine. They do lift the cam follower (you could call this a rocker arm, I guess), but they do not lift the valve. Actually, a lifter doesn't lift the valve either, just the rocker arm.
