My car died...

My car died...
Its restarted but i had to park it and turn the key off and restart it. It was being driven from 8pm - 10pm in about 85 degree weather and i was in a parking lot making a turn when i lost the power steering and realized the car just shut itself off. This has never happened before and im kinda concerned that it might happen on my commute to work or something. Seeing how it happend when i was driving thank god it was in a parking lot. If anyone has experience this before i would like to know about it. The car seems to be fine now but i was just wondering what the cause was and if i can somehow prevent it... Thanks

Has it ran since? How does the belt look? Same thing happened in a 98 Z28 when the serpentine belt broke but I doubt this is your problem. Fuel pump? Spark plugs? Fuel injectors? Could be a number of things.

IAC - Idle Air Controll valve... check to see if its clean or not. People will suggest to clean it out with some carb cleaner but I'd rather replace it. So you'll gauranteed that it won't be dirty as fast. It could also be ur MAF sensor... see if u have an aftermarket cai, you might have removed the maf screen which will trigger the sensor into believing that more air is flowing... so check those two things...
trust me, i ahev had this happen to me. Did you break and use the clutch at the same time?

try going 85 and the stang dies on u... that has happened to me before... luckily i was on interstate so I had the time to turn the ignition right away without any huge problems... did u notice if u cranked, the car will start right up without any kind of hesitation?

RE: My car died...
ive had the exact same problem, for different reasons. im pretty sure your car does what mine does when it overheats, which is shut off. when youre not moving it is more prone to overheat, and in 85 degree temperature im hoping that was the prob. first, check your coolant level, and make sure there are no leaks. id check the heater core too, very common to have that leak. if your temp gauge is reading fine (no further than halfway over) then dont worry about it. also as stated, id replace the iac valve...its 30$ at your parts store. if the idle is fine though, like its not bouncing around, then dont worry about the iac valve. i hope you just overheated, cause thats an easy fix.
