it is a PITA to install them if you do it right...by this i mean removing timing cover and degreeing in cams afterwards. If you do it the shortcut way by using the Anderson Tool its not so bad. I would get the stage 1 VT cams if i had your mods and goals. Alot of people buy too much cam and hurt the driveability of their cars.

The last issue of MM&FF has an article on doing this. What you need is the Andersen cam tool, about 25.00, new valve cover gaskets and most important is the Rotunda valve spring compressor to remove the rockers. The gears are bolt on and no need to remove the timing chain cover, look it up in the Mag., good luck.

do you all think its possible for me to cam my car without putting out to much power on the stock internals? or would it be perfectly safe with like a stage 2 blower cam?

i dont know much about forced induction but by your #'s you might be pushing it a stage one on a bolt on car averages around 25hp or so so im sure itd be even more on a blown car my shop told me my car should be around 275-280 to the wheels but im not sure about that

i have stage 1 vt's and my tuner said that the car still has a good bit more in it than even what it threw down, but my car isnt running that well, so much for what he says. I was going to go stage 2 vt as well until scott at vt said that i would need springs, hmm. He never said that it was just recommended. I wish i did stage 2 for the lope, eventhough alot of people will roll their eyes at that.

Racer: cams may be pushing it, but i am sure alot of people think you are already pushing it. You seem to have the most hp on a stock basement i have seen on here. i look to you to break new ground for all of us on HP limits with a good tune, so i say go for it. I will kick in $ for a bus pass if you nuke your engine.

For the amount of cash you are going to spend on this mod and the little power gain from it, you might as well get a nice idle from it too. Thats what I would want. But, you can get a brandnew vortech tuner kit minus the injectors and fuel pump for $2500 and get a HUGE gain, so thats the way Im going. Maybe when I get the blower situated, I will look into blower cams for the extra grunt and cool idle. Good luck.

Yeah I would really love to have a vortech but I dont think I want to spend that much money. I dont plan on modding this car heavily. I just want it to look and sound really good and have some decent power. In a few more years I plan on getting a Z06 so I will need plenty of cash for that.
