Who cares which one is slower? I have to sit in traffic every day and never go over 15mph most of the time anyway[sm=smiley36.gif]

Stock for stock a 5spd takes the win. Now if you have time and money an auto will be better for a drag car. As was said, it is more consistant, won't miss a shift, shifts faster, and you can keep the laughing gas flowing. If you are running bracket racing than consistancy is the key. With an auto you just launch at the same rpm every time, hold it to the floor and you will run about the same time as you have every other run. With a 5spd you have to luanch then worry about shifting at the exact same rpms (since bracket racing is about matching your time, slower OR faster and you loose points). My freind with a 95 GT 5 spd got beat by a chevy metro auto BRACKET racing. Just some food for thought.

You are very true with that. I bracket race myself and I have raced my mustang at times and it is definetly a lot better. If you are into brackets, auto is without a doubt the way to go. Plus you can get a good stall converter for the automatic to easily beat the 5spd.

The majority of the people don't go to the stripe though. It all depends on what your doing. Auto for the stripe, 5-speed for autocross, it all depends on what your doing with the car.

The way I look at it, most people don't race their cars period.. Therefore go stick or go home.

even though i know auto can be quicker i still love shifting and having full control over my car. that is one reason why i got a 5 speed. i love knowing i have more control

When it comes to the one thing that really matters, the fun factor, the 5spd is a ton of fun compared to an auto. I honestly don't think I would ever have an automatic mustang, just my opinion.

I still have a lot of fun with my auto mustang. I found a great deal on it anyways that I couldn't pass up. But there is definetly nothing wrong with an auto.
