when your "manually" shifting it, like from 1st to 2nd, it wont shift until you shift it. basically a tuner does the same thing, set shift points- but with my 95, i shift at around 5200 rpms or so at the track.

get a PA Valve body, its a direct bolt in it saves alot of time and money and it does the same thing as a transgo plus you dont have to worry about a tranny shop screwing the install up like they did with my transgo kit. you can buy them at jegs.

there is a great post here describing the difference between the tuner and the shift kit for you late models. Im not sure where it is.. if your really bored, try the search button. very imformative when it comes to why a shift kit and tuner is a perfect setup
jd1969 knows the difference, and this is what I think the explanation was (keep in mind I'm not 100% sure of this):
the tuner makes the tranny fluid pump run faster in order to increase the shift pressure.
the shift kit changes the valving to raise the pressure without running the fluid pump faster.

so in other words, the shift kit won't fugg up the pump, but a tuner might.

I personally have never seen a single car where the tranny pump went out, but the argument for a shift kit sounds reasonable to me.

if you go with a hypertech tuner it has a shift firmness which doses the same thing, but it is costly it dose come with a 93 octane tune. but that is all you can do with it.

if your talking about a shift kit, mine was 250 to install. The kit was like 90.00 or so. But, well worth it. Actually i had the gears done the same time and it was 250 a piece to install.

As for how i shift, in town, I leave it in drive most of the time and it shifts normally. When Im at the track or want really cool performance, I drop it down into first at the light, then I shift mine at around 5200 (i have a 95 5.0), then throw into 2nd and get a chirp on the pavement, on the track, just bites hard. Then drive of course, but by that time im almost at the end of the track. I seem to get better performance shifting manually- maybe its in my head, i dont know.

But the shift kit is the most important thing you can do to your auto, trust me!!

Does the tranny oil cooler improve power? I figured it just improved reliability, and kept the tranny in better condition after several runs. What does the PA Valvebody do?
