RE: Timing chain
Sometimes its easier to get a fresh brain involved when you've been working on something for a while and getting frustrated. There's been times Ive forgotten my own home phone number when Im into something for a long time and getting brain exhausted.

The best way to do it, take the time and pull the heads and check everything out.
You don't wanna short cut this and just 'hope' everything is A-Okay. A couple months from now you might be kicking yourself in the *** for not pulling the heads when you have some minor but soon to be severe piston damage, and you have a couple pistons laying in the road somewhere.

and at least intake and exhaust gaskets, maybe valve cover gaskets (im not sure if stock is rubber and yours are in good shape. Not to mention any other misc stuff that may need to come off. Really a head gasket set is the best course of action. Good luck either way.
