Should I get 4.10's or 4.30's for my daily driver?
woo hoo another gear question!! Well I just ordered my off road h, now it's time to order some gears. I cant decide which to go with so maybe you guys can help me out. I dont do much highway driving, only about 3 miles to work. I dont see the track much and I plan on keeping my car well past its 100k mile mark. Which do you think is best for me?

3.73's? Wtf who would want that? Thats like upgrading to 3.08's in a 5.0 when you had 2.73's [sm=smiley29.gif]
I really am a fan of 4.10's, I don't really see going with 4.30's unless you have a 4v car. But, you already know my stance Wade

I would go with the 4.10's I love mine. 3.73's would seem to be pointless, go for the most bang for the buck. Its going to cost the same for 3.73, 4.10 and same install price so might as well go with the better performers. 4.10's all the way

hey MD you've got the 4.10:1 gears right? is your car an auto or stick?
Assuming it's a 5 spd. what are your RPMs at 60 MPH in 4th and in 5th at the same speed?
What's your max speed in 3rd (at say 5,700 - 6,000 RPM)?
How about 1st gear?!? is it even useable on the street or do you just start and have to shift? Isn't it really hard to hook up?
You are a knowledgeable dude. Can you compare the same questions for 3.73:1 gear for me? I'm sure there are plenty of us who could benefit from this information and maybe just maybe it will be the last time anyone askes about 3.73 vs. 4.10 LOL. not likely.
I would really appreciate your input or anyone else who has the different gears.
I can't make up my mind and it's starting to bug me. I don't know anyone who has done a gear swap so I can't ride around with them and see for myself.
BTW - I just read in MM&FF that they thought the Mach could use swap to 4.10 and they come with 3.55s...it's the issue where they put the Mach up against the new GTO.

RE: Should I get 4.10's or 4.30's for my daily driver?
Well, 4.10's at 70mph in 5th will put me at 2400rpm or so. Fourth tops out at around 110 or so with the stock rev limiter. Third takes me to about 80 I believe. I use first gear every time, I usually shift at about 3500 from first, which is almost 20mph. Guys its only a 20% difference in gears. Add 20% more rpm's in each gear for your speed and thats where you'd be. 3.73's are only a 13 difference, a waste of time and money if you ask me.
See, back on an old 5.0, a 3.73 swap was a 27% difference from stock. Now the same gear is only a 13% difference, so your only gonna get 1/3 the performance increase with a 3.73 gearswap compared to what a 5.0 would get. People need to get out of the 5.0 world when referring to a 4.6
Bull8t was debating whether to go with 3.73's or 4.10's, till I let him drive my car with 4.10's. Now he's considering 4.30's. Go figure

4:10 is the best gear take it or leave it. i think 4:30 would be too high because you would have to shift into fith gear when racing not really easy to shift to fith. and it would be another shift to slow you down. i say if your woriied about gas mileage than keep the stock gears and dont race. but if your gonna get gears than get the best. 4:10 all the way.

i am going to have to disagree with everyone and say 4.10's...
seriously though, you can't go wrong with 4.10's
