Hey man. Go test drive the new GTO's. They are a dream. Check out LS1GTO.com as well.
You'll be almost a full second faster stock than your mustang you have now. They are fairly decent to mod, and the new GTO won't be out until 2008. Just some random facts. Let us know what you decide.

You'll be upgrading to a car that responds to modifications 5x's better than your 2v, but you'll encounter the typical issues a GTO has, weight & traction.
Assuming your a good driver, you'll definitely run low 13's in the car, but for the price and if it's not a daily driver, I'd go looking for an 03/04 Cobra.

The Cobra will respond to modifications much better, both cars are fairly reliable too.
It's just a matter of wanting to stay uncomfortable but go fast cheap & easy in the Cobra or get comfortable and have to go through headers/cam swap at the least (if you don't want to spray) to really wake up the GTO.
Fortunately, I didn't need a daily driver, which is why I got the Cobra. It's a freakin' blast to drive on the short trips I take it on, however if I had to drive it everyday, I'd laugh at anyone who puts themself through the torture of being so damn uncomfortable, reaching 5 feet to shift gears and having to do leg presses at the gym so they can handle a rush hour of clutch work.
The 05 GTO's I test drove felt really quick, not quite as quick as my Terminator, but they felt strong, were INCREDIBLY comfortable, had an awesome interior and I was able to drive around without attracting much attention.
