Ok .. gears .. One of the best mods you can do .. and one of the 1st you SHOULD do ..

simply put .. 4.10 by ford racing .. don't settle for less.. and you can find them all over ebay, your local shop, etc... for 150-200 shipped ...

Most places do gear installs for 150-400 dollars... and I yeah I'd recommend a hand held tuner .. diablo or SCT ... I have a burned chip for mine only because .. well it was free haha

I've heard alot of horror stories on peoples gears installs .. and just to clean it up ... if done right with FR gears.. they should be as quiet as stock gears...

With 4.10 you'll be running 2500 RPMs at 70 mph .. and I still get 25 mpg ( closer to 20 when i get that heavy foot ) with my gear and other mods .. so not a big deal ..

Pros: quicker accel.

Cons: Worse gas mileage and I personally think the drivability sucks. 1st gear is almost non existant.

It won't make a difference between FR gears and motive, just the install.. Installed correctly, they will be no whine.

call around to get the best price for gear install. the more the mechanic knows about mustangs the faster it will take him and this means that it will be chaeper.

Realize one thing. The only 'pro' when doing 4.10 gears is that it will make your car accelerate slightly faster.

Pros of a 4.10 - IMO, none.

Cons - No first gear, worse gas milage, increased loss of control in poor weather conditions, more wear and tear on the motor and drivetrain as a whole, shorter tire life (as traction will become an issue witha 4.10).

It really depends, how much time do you spend at the track actually racing? How much of the time do you drive your car on the street? Personally, I wouldnt go any higher than a 3.73. And IMO thats still a fairly steep gear for the street, when I first put my car together, when racing with street tires, I would go sideways into 3rd gear and thats with a 3.27. My buddy went up to a 3.55 and IMO his car spins pretty high on the highway. Also, when you travel on teh expressway what is your regular cruising speed?60, 70, 85? Those are all things you need to consider when changing a gear.
