Pressing the clutch

Pressing the clutch
How far should you push down on the clutch when changing gears? I always press about 1/3 of the way, but some people say to press right down to the floor. They say if you don't press all the way, then you will burn out your clutch. Is this true?

RE: Pressing the clutch
you only need to push it till the release point, not all the way, however you may have been told to push it to the firewall to ensure that you dont grind, or let out too early, maybe when learning to drive.

RE: Pressing the clutch
when racing, and redlining..
is it better to
FIND THAT PUSH POINT THAT RELEASES to the next gear.. and thats okay.??
or MAKE SURE YOU PRESS DOWN TO THE FLOOR (FIREWALL) so you ensure shifting??

RE: Pressing the clutch
when you perfect where that release point is you want to shift with as little leg work as possible, it will def improve shift times, and therefore track times.....until you learn where that "kiss point" is you may grind a bit, but thats how you learn

RE: Pressing the clutch
gotcha.. thats what i figured..
why when shifting redline does the shifting seem tougher?
and redline is slightly before 6k rpms right? so thats slightly after the "Red" area ends on the speedo?

RE: Pressing the clutch
well you wanna shift slightly "before" redline, otherwise your gonna loose some power, redline on a GT is 5800rpm. as for tougher shifting, I believe its because the engine is wound to its peak, your demanding more power from the engine
