Really even If I just wanted it to be the stock white color? 2-2.5k?

If your re painting... no door jams, under hood, trunk area... should be around 1-2K Becuase its basically an outside job

and how many clear coats each one is XX amount of dollars

Yeah I just want to redo the outside. Like I said The car is 10 years old (Only 55k miles) and thats its only problem. The paint is chiped in a few places but no body work will be nessesary just paint.

I want shine so we will be putting on serveral coats of clear.

Also I'm only 16 so this project will be waiting till next spring.

For some persprective. The last car I painted the materials alone cost $600, add to that at least another $500 for labor and prep (thats super cheap) and your looking at $1-1500. Any cheaper and I would question the quality of the work. Good painters do not come cheap.

Its not really how many coats of clear you used.. its the quality .. if you wanna go cheap/ good use a dupont chroma clear .. 3 coats of that and you can wetsand and buff all day ... you really don't need much better of a clear unless you're gonna have this as a show car .. I mean hell you can get the dupont clear thats 500 a gallon .. literally looks like you have an inch of class over your car... sick .. but way to expensive for the average person .. and not needed.... make sure whoever does your paint .. they prep it right .. and take their time .. In the 5 years I owned my chevy show truck .. i had it painted 3 times .. so I got to know paint pretty well ..

My guess was about a 1000 bucks for a good job.

P.S. My girlfriends step dad is a awsome painter. So I'll be taking it to him.
Simple solution to this one....take your car to him and get a quote

Good luck finding a good paint guy.

The last time I workes w/ paint it was Dopont Centari. Dupont Emron is even better, but more difficult to lay down smooth. Regardless, if it's not preped properly, it will look like sh#$ after a short while
