Default looking into mustang 4.6

Well for a grad present my parents are going to help me out and get a more expensive car, 12-15k. Now nobody in my house drives a 5 sp so more then likely it will be an auto, i was wondering how fast the 99-02 mustang 4.6 are. those seem to be the year thats in the price range. Also how are they for reliability? Good for DD?

pretty reliable, not great on gas. Not a bad car for that price range, but if you want to go faster, consider an LS1 maybe (or just get a stang eitherway)

The auto's aren't bad, but you should learn to drive a stick and get a 5 speed.

if ya can get a manuel you will be very happy, if you get an auto you will still be happy just not as happy , well thats my opinion, i prefer the interaction of the shifting, but it will be a quick little ride that kids your age prolly should be careful with. if your in a winter state there might be a few days ya cant use her, but other than that they are awesome dd's its a mustang, they are made to run son.... whoot whoot!!! buy that sob

Learn to drive a manual, then your parents won't be able to drive your car.

+1. They can be had for a similar price and many GT owners wish they did this.

Unless your parents may need to borrow the car for some reason at some point, go ahead and buy a stick and learn. You'll have much more fun.

99/01 Cobra FTW. 4 valves>2 valves

Plus they only come in 5 speeds...just learn it..not hard at all. You'll have it down in a week tops.

You're young, so you probably want to check on insurance first. In most places, younger drivers get slayed with insurance premiums for V8 Mustangs. (same with Camaros, Firebirds, WRX's, Nissan Z's, etc. Basically anything with more power than is "sensible".)

Other than that, they great for reliability, not too bad on gas, and as long as you're not in a snow-belt should be fine as a daily driver.
