RE: how to remove rear main seal??
You dont have to remove the seal plate you only made it harder on yourself. There are speacial tool for removing and installing the seal. You just the removal tool that looks like a small sharp crowbar and pull the seal out. then you oil the inside of the new seal (the part that touches the crank) and use the install tool to press it inot place. Good luck cause you made it a real PITA job now by pullling the plate.

Put the plate on the new engine and do what I said above. Go to auto zone and get the install tool.

RE: how to remove rear main seal??
The seal does not go on the crank, its held in place, pressure fit, by the plate. The removal and install toolis not that readaly available to the public. Now that you have it off you can install a new seal in the plate if you have a seal driver or use a block of wood. Put a thin, 1/8" bead of Motorcraft gray silicone around the plate, oil up the seal lip and crank, then with a slight twisting motion re-install the plate. It has 2alignment dowels so when you go to put it on start with the top at about 10:00 o'clock, push and turn, gently, to get the seal lip onto the crank and you should be about lined up with the dowels and you can push it on. Do thisso you don't upset the silicone and your all set, then install the slinger, if your motor had one, good luck.
