gear swap
Hey folks,

I have an 02 GT and I was looking at swapping out the gears. My car is a daily driver that I am going to start taking to the track (weekend warrior). I can't decide between 3.73, 4.10, and the new 3.90 that I saw Pro 5.0 is selling. Can anyone tell me what my pros and cons are gonna be for each ratio?

Also, is there any particular installation kit that is better than others?

I have 3.73 and love it. I also plan on getting a blower later on too. 4.10 if you're staying N/A, 3.73 if you plan on getting a blower. Your gas mileage won't suffer as bad as you think. Don't fear the gear.

i have 3.73's, and its not too bad on the highway. i get pretty good gas mileage. 300 to a tank easy if it's mostly highway. but say, if i were to be stationed in germany, i'd prob put 3.27's in it, because of course i'd have to get my fix on the autobahn.

you need a spedometer recalibrator. many aftermarket chips and tuning programmers offer this, but the best thing would be to find a shop that can install the gears and re calibrate the spedo.

Yea definetly do the recalibration. Your ECM takes a lot of readings from your VSS and it should be as accurate as possible. Also as far as the install kit goes just make sure you buy a quality one that has the neccassary shims, crush sleeve, ect., to do the job right.
