T56 trans and upgrade?

RE: T56 trans and upgrade?
because the tranny ratios are a bit different... I was going to do that in my GT when I had it... they were part of my future plans, and i had a couple people locally tell me they did the swap and then swapped it right back out...

A t56 for 700 bucks is a STEAL. you will need a new bellhousing to go with it (unless it already has a 4.6 bell) and a new driveshaft as well. If you can get it for 700 bucks and have the money for hte rest of the stuff GET IT.
Which trans is it, the viper/terminator spec or the other 56? Either way its a steal, and if you already need a new trans its agreat buy.
BTW, I don't see how anyone could not like it on a 99-04, as stated the ratios are nearly identical untl 5th gear, and after that all you get is a better 5th and then either the same final gear (5th vs 6th) or a longer one where you can run a taller rearend ratio (depending on which trans you go with , termy or reagular)

RE: T56 trans and upgrade?
I dunno, I never had it. but i had like 2 people tell me they had it and didn't like it...
Cobra spec T56: 2.66/1.78/1.30/1.00/.80/.62
GT TR3650: 3.37/1.99/1.33/1.00/.67
-I pulled these offline.. they dont look exact to me... buthonestly, I don't know how much of a difference, the difference in ratios would make..
EDIT: I didn't see the link you had posted.. only thing I could imagine is the 1st gear difference... just word of mouth, not sure why they didn't like it... I remember about them sayin it felt slower... something along those lines...

The T-56 ratios are almost exactly identical until 5th gear. 1st and 2nd are a little longer than the stock gearing, but its not a huge difference:

RE: T56 trans and upgrade?
The viper spec/termy t56 has the following ratios:
2.66/1.78/1.30/1.00/.74/.50
If you get a viper/termy one, you can run a much more agressive rear end ratio than normal. With a .50 overdrive you should be able to get away with something like a 4.30/4.56 instead of a 3.73/4.10.(not exactly, but you get the idea).
It sounds like your friends just need to do a rear gear swap.
However, if you got the pre termy non viper spec trans it goes like this:
2.97/2.07/1.43/1.00/.80/.62
In this case, you have about the same overdrive gear, so you can't run a really steep rear end gear and have the same crusing RPM.
If you do get the pre 03 cobra 56 though its not that big of a deal. First will be less agressive, but 2nd is right there (1.99 in a 45 compared to 2.07 is nothing). The first gear COULD be an issue if you have a very mild bolton car, but going to a 3.73 or 4.10 should mostly solve this problem.
Like I said, if you can get a 56 for 700 bucks your raping someone. Brand new D@D has even the non viper spec for 2400+ !
