Only reason I really have to say stay out of the grooves is because the actual sticky is left on the bald pavement. It would seem that the slicks would leave behind sticky. I know this from lots of experience running a street tire at the track for bragging rights. Next time at the track have someone try it and you will be amazed. In my 88 coupe I was cutting a 2.2 60' on the street tire before some track junkie told me try and get out of the groove. Did this and cut a 1.92 60' and ran 7.6 at 93 mph in the 1/8th consistently.

Incorrect, yes avoid the water box. Yes heat em up, not a stage 5 john force burn out, but more than just 1 or 2 times. THE MAIN THING IS TO STAY OUT OF THE GROOVES. Lesson 1(grooves) where the rubber is from all the bad azz cars leaving out hard. Get on the bald pavement and that thing will break your neck. You know, out of the grooves, this is the number one killer of street tires at the track. Trust me it works.
When you heat up street tires, they produce an oil like substance and glaze over.. basicaly making them more slippery than if you had done nothing at all. You see people do it all the time. Street tires do not become stickier when hot like a softer compund tire... all you need is a good clean off to get any dirt and debris.

3 Reasons your ET was bad.

1. You've had the car for 3 weeks. Period. lol
2. Your 60' was in the 2.3 range, which gives you a half second to pick up with a decent launch alone.
3. Your shifting was probably not as good as it could have been. This ties in with having the car for 3 weeks. Even if you think you're shifting good and fast, you probably leave alot of room for improvement.

Nothing to be horribly ashamed of. I went 14.5's in a modded 99GT my first time out. I'm 13.9's now with the same car/mods.

Post the entire timeslip, it will help people understand exactly what was going on.

Don't expect to run the same time the first time out as a person with lots of experence with the car.

Try just letting the clutch out around 1500/2000 RPM and then flooring it once the clutch is all the way out.. You should be able to hook up all the way thru 1st, if you spin you need different tires.

I have ran my fastest times so far by simply launching it easy (making sure not to spin) and then just being able to floor it all the way thru 1st/2nd without spinning. On a stock gearing/tire GT I think that should result in your fastest times.

do you guys consider nitto 555's street tires,
are they not worth warming up?
