short shifter install

RE: short shifter install
grab the bezel around the shift boot at 10 and 5 o'clock, then gently pull straight up.dont yank it too hard, you dont want to bust the tabs. then when you get it loose, look behind it and disconnect the 12v harness(its just a little clip comes out easy)
then have at it.. you need a 10mm ratchet for the first 4 bolts(if i remember correctly) then take that plate off, then use the 13mm to take the shifter off the tranny itself.
clean the old gasket residue off the tranny top(make sure NOT to let n e thing get in the tranny) then apply a bead of gasket maker to the tranny
grab your new shifter and fit it on. MAKE SURE THE CUP IS ATTACHED TO THE END OF THE SHFTER ON THE BOTTOM(should come up with the stock shifter)
bolt the 4 bolts for the shifter than set your shift stops. to do this, just tighten or loosin the 2 bolts so the shifter can get into EVERY gear but not be able to go any farther than to be engaged.
after that, just put everything back together and your done.
it is REALLY easy. the hardest part is taking the 12v wire out of the back of the plug..seriously

my hurst shifter came with a detailed writeup that included pictures....shoulda got a hurst! mgw and steeda etc ftl[:'(] ....ive never used any of the others though lol just prefer the chrome handle and white shift ball...hardest part for me was setting the shift stops, i kept dropping my wrench and having to get a broom and slide the broom under my car to get the wrench back....ive only got a couple inches of clearance lol... also when you put the boot back on, you can put it on inside out and zip tie the end to the base then flip the boot over it and leave the handle exposed...looks way better!
