actually i was going to get 275/40/17's on my stock rims and the guy tried to put them on but they wouldnt fit. he said they might fit but wouldnt be safe...and i was about to leave on a 430 mile trip so i didnt wanna take a chance. and i dont know why he would lie about that cause he lost money because i didnt buy the bigger tiresl.

I've been running 275/40/17 on my back rims for years with no problems.

yeah some places won't put a tire that wide on a stock rim. the 275 is a tight fit on a stock rim, i had hell mounting my 275s on the stock Bullitts. if you're not careful you can tear the bead and ruin the tire too, so maybe that's why he wouldn't mount them on there. if he ruined even 1 tire, then he'd probably lose any profit from selling you the wider tires. during high school, when i worked for my dad at his service shop, we had guys bring their ghetto low-riders in and want a 225 tire mounted on a9" wide rim and they were mad when we wouldn't do it. hell, the tire's about half as wide as the rim, how the hell are we supposed to get the thing to take air???
