i was wondering if i cut off the cats and mufflers and just run straight pipes from the headers back will that give me horsepower? i have a 97 gt with nitrous(100 shot) and 4.10s

yeah, it will give you about 15-20hp. I know a couple of people that have done it. The only thing is you will have a check engine light on, but other than that, the car will scream.

[sm=gears.gif]DO IT. Oyeah for mufflers put some dynomax bullets on their. she will sound nasty, if your are wanting to go the cheap route.

why not just get a mac o/r h-pipe. they are only like 150$ and they bolt right up. sound mean as hell, and provide a nice gain. no cutting, etc...

You ever hear a really loud raspy farty sounding truck rumbling at about 2am from a distance? That is what your car will sound like with straight pipes. It's goig to smell awful and it's going to be so loud you'll never be able to leave your house without everyone knowing what direction you went.

You should just spend 130+shipping for a Mac O/R H-pipe and 60 bucks for some MIL eliminators at the very least.

well right now i have straight pipes where the mufflers should be and it sounds alright and doesnt smell, and doesnt off road h pipes take the cats off to, so shouldnt it smell if i take the cats off and whats the diffrence if its straght pipes all the way versus h pipes dont they do the samething(remove cats)

It will sound like ***. Really loud ***. You might gain 5hp from it. The biggest hp gain is from the piping that you get when you buy aftermarket exhaust.

and yes.. offroad pipes do take the cats out but 99% of people have mufflers to give it good tone
