Bought a Glasstec hood and the is no reinforcement for factory latch. Has anyone used this hood and how did you reinforce it. Glasstec wants us to chop up our old hood to do this.

i agree. i wouldn't chop up the old hood, cuz someday you just might need it for some crazy reason. i'd just invest in a good set of STAINLESS STEEL hood pins for it and call it a day.

Chopping the hood is a terrible Idea.Hood pins are only 20 bucks.

Ok, I already have the SS hood pins. But I also wanted to hook up factory latch. I guess no one here has done it. I have started my prototype reinforcement. I will post some pics when done.

fab a piece of steel (doesn't have to be very thick) the size you want and pop rivet in place for the reinforcment. I had to do this when my hood got ripped off the latch tearing the reinforcement out of the hood.

i had to fabricate a hood reinforcement out of a piece of steel when i bought my carbon fiber hood. i wanted to use the hood pins but the one that came with it sucked, so i drove it w/o pins for awhile... bad idea i was goin bout 140 on the highway and the carbon fiber separated from its fiberglass underlayment lol it was kinda scary i just heard this huge rip and my friend behind me saw it fly about 100-150 feet in the air lol, there was no one on the road at the time so it didnt hit n e one thank god cause my insurance is high enough...

o the reason it ripped off in the first place was a small crack between the carbon and the fiberglass, the force of the wind got up under it and a tenth of a sec l8r it was gone...

heres what it looked like after the fact... i did get a new hood out of the deal tho =)
