Default Should I degree?

Well I am in the process of getting my PI cams installed. I am currently at 370/380 and am going from my stock NON PI cams to PI cams. Is it necessary to get these cams degreed? How much more power would I see out of getting them degreed? It just seems that for the money, it would be a better decision just to get the cams installed and get a retune. thanks guys[/align]

I would say Yes, degree them. Cams are positioned by manufacture not for power but for economy(emmisions) gains. Therefore they are retarded or advanced depending on the set up, on our cars usually retarded. Although I can not tell you what kind of gains you'll see from a degreed cam, I can tell you will gain. If you are blown, I highly recommend it.

According to Smokey Yunick, degreeing cams is just part of the installation process. If for no other reason, you are just checking to make sure the cams are what you bought. I installed a cam in my old 302 one time and found they had actually shipped me a 351 cam (same dimensions, different firing order). If you add up the tolerances on things like gears, keyways, and heads, you could easily be off a few degrees in either direction. To me, its more of a make sure the engine is setup the way you want instead of squeezing more power out of it.
