Default Timing Question?

I have a almost stock 2002 GT it has a Steeda timing adjuster on it, was on there when I bought it and 24lbs injectors. Its set to 10*, and I was thinking about changing and playing with it. Does any one know what I should set it to, b/c I was thinking about 12* and seeing how that works. Let me know what your opinions are. I know I need to use premium fuel with it the best i can get in my area is 91oct im hoping that would be ok.

Default RE: Timing Question?

im no pro mechanic. just trying to provide you with some sort of response, since this post has about made it off the page with no answers.

i dont have a steeda timing adjuster, but i can adjust my timing with my sct tuner. im tuned for 93 octane but i usually also put in 2 gallons of 101 octane with it, and bump up my timing even higher! haha anyway...you can change it around as much as you want...

the more timing you add, the more power you will get. (also the higher octane you will need)

all you have to do, is fill up on 91octane. keep adding a degree of timing untill you hear the dreaded tick/ping, then back off the timing a degree or 2. untill the ping goes away.

so....if you turn it up to "12" and you dont hear any ticking/pinging or any other strange un-normal noises, then you are good to go. if you do hear pinging at 12, then try 11!

if you notice ticking/pinging or any similar noises....this is NOT GOOD and can cause damage. back off the timing untill you dont hear it. simple as that.

chances are tho...the timing adjuster is already set to its best setting from the previos owner. it wont hurt to bump it up a degree or 2 tho to try it out. if it causes any noises. turn it back.

well first you need to know what your compression ratio is from one side of the motor to the other, what ever side is lower set the opposite side of the motor to the same psi, this balances the cylinders and you can gain some ponies.

this is the correct way to do it, when you adjust your timing you change your static compression ratio, do a compression check, you will find that one side of the engine is lower than the other by a very small amount, adjust your timing gears on the opposite side to match the lower compression on the other side.

just wondering.....but....do you know what a "STEEDA TIMING ADJUSTER" is? you might wanna google that, so you can see what he is talking about.

it has nothing to do whith what you are talking about...
