Engine Rebuild
Just curious what all is entailed, and what is the cost for an engine rebuild on a '96 Saleen.......The car is S/C (Vortech V-1), and has 100k on it, and runs very well. Just had it dyno'd at 295rwhp, and the tuner said it pulls/runs very strong, so nothing is wrong w/the engine. I just would rather get the thing rebuilt to eliminate future problems. </P>
What needs redone, and what am I looking at $$ wise???</P><edited><editID>boxer156</editID><editDate>37910.6854976852</editDate></edited>

Engine Rebuild
usually in a simple rebuildyou'll get new bearings, pistons, rings, oil pump, gaskets, and exhaust and intake valves. probably a few other items i can't remember.</P>
<FONT face=Arial size=2>as for cost, if you do it yourself its just the cost of the kit + any tools you'd need. i don't know what the kit for a saleen would cost. probably ain't cheap.

Wont need new pistons unless you gotta overbore the block. Just rings, rod and main bearings, gasket set, valve job and new valve springs. Total cost could be under500 bucks for everything, not including labor of course. <edited><editID>mdvaldosta</editID><editDate>37910.7142708333</editDate></edited>

Now that I think about it, and you are already supercharged, I would get some forged low compression (like 8.5 to 1) and up the boost a good bit, something like 12 - 15 psi would still be relieable with that. Just a thought.

Rebuild from a shop, could be around $1,500-2k, not including installation.</P>
Not too shabby, also you should put some money away for a Tranny & Rear, chances are a supercharged car wasn't babied for it's entire life..</P>

Engine Rebuild
If you don't have experience rebuilding engines, let a shop do it. It costs more, but if you don't know what you're doing, and if you don't have the precision tools required, you can really f**k things up like you wouldn't believe.</P>
If you don't swap your heads, you should at least have them ported while they're off. You'll get considerable gains, and it really isn't hard.</P>

Engine Rebuild
I would just keep running the engine..start building a new one while enjoying the car..yes it will cost a lil more but you'll be able to take your time. if you have rebuilt one of those engine I would tell ok but you haven't so i have someone you trust and if possible be there to watch and learn. this gives you research time and not cut corners due to lack of money. hope this helps
