Hey man I have a 96 gt with an flowtech x-pipe and no cats. All the cats do is help you keep backpressure. If you get it without cats its cheaper but you may lose some torque. Add some air intake stuff and it should be nice, especially when u drop it into second at 40mph. Oh also if you dont get cats on it #1 it makes your car not street legal (i've had no problems with the law though like a break tag or anything) and your o2 senseors go off and make you check engine light stay on forever. You can get mil eliminators for about 100 bucks and make the check engine light turn off. If your law is not an azz i'd get it without cats and cover up the check engine light hehe. It's like a tatoo though, when you get that first one it opens the way for so much more potential of horsepower ableness to be able to hande more hp. Sounds good though, no matter what way you go they should make a pipe that bolts right on to you headers. Mine was a little bit off from the factory so the guys at my performance shop that take care of me heated it up and moved it a little.

if you have Flowmasters, you'd probably be more happy w/the sound of an H-pipe setup, but that is all preference.

If you are going to go with an X-pipe, it will be worth it to buy a pipe with cats. There is no difference in power gain with or without the cats, though the difference will be a SLIGHTLY milder exhaust tone. But, if you already have Flowmasters, it'll sound great. And as far as catted x-pipes go, do yourself and your Mustang a favor and go with the best unit built, which is from Bassani. It will bolt up to the stock manifold And to the the flowmasters w/o hassle. I Have a catted Bassani X on my 5.0 w/ Flowmasters...I suggested it to my mother who has a 01' GT. Her car sounds and runs GREAT with the catted Bassani x-pipe, AND she doesn't have to deal with the Check Engine light.</P>

Do it right...Go Bassani Stainless Steel catted x-pipe, around $450 (price around)</P>

I heard from many individuals and even articles that an Off road Xpipe will give more hp than catted X.....It just flows better. No restrictions.</P>

I'm getting the BassaniOff road X-pipemated with Magnaflow straight through mufflers...<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"></P>

Did I hear someone say Backpressure? <IMG src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0"></P>

Ya don't need it, you don't want any of it in a V8. Eliminate as much BP as possible for the most HP gains. You can go as far as running Shortie headers, Mid lengths, or Long tubes, WIDE OPEN, eliminating as much BP as possible and gain major HP.</P>

That's why they make this cute little device called...a cut-out.</P>

Exhaust restriction IS backpressure, that's why they sell aftermarket crap to eliminate it. They wouldn't sell some of this stuff it risked hurting performance, but a few companies actually do this <IMG src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0"></P>

I've never personally heard the X-pipe application with Flowmasters, but I have been told OVER &amp; OVER again that that particular setup produces a VERY RASPY CRAPPY SOUND. I do know that X-pipes work better w/straight through mufflers, and that chambered mufflers such as the FM's sound kick @$$ w/a Mac ProChamber. Personally...I can't stand VERY RASPY...Sorta like...D&amp;D on a motorcyle<IMG src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0">. But if you like that sorta sound...go for it.</P><edited><editID>GSXRIntensity</editID><editDate>37923.10125</editDate></edited>

I'm running stock exhaust manifolds with a MAC off road x pipe and cut out flows and it's nowhere near raspy or crappy. I've been setting car alarms off in parking lots from 20 feet away because of the tone being so low. It might be too loud for some.
