PI SWAP!! wish me luck
Alrighty, Life has been super super busy and my car has been in the garage for months. But tonight the engine is fully put back together.
Long tubes, new valvetrain, PI cams, PI heads, poly motor mounts, new timing chains, those stupid expensive iridium plugs, and im switching to 5w-20.
Should be a super super difference, but threading in the plugs tonight cylinder #1 is fubar, so tomorrow I gotta heli coil it and I should be able to start it, wish me luck guys.
feb 16th I start classes in avondale AZ, UTI trained ford mechanic =D

I dont really wanna spring the cash for a dyno, and I dont wanna run the qt with the car like this, because I know it wont hook up. without stiffening it and giving it some way to transfer weight.
I'm supposed to go heads up at PIR against my step dads 03 WS6 Trans Am before I leave to AZ.

Yessum, I found a set of full PI heads n cams for $180, everything else tested good but I totally forgot to run a plug through all the cylinders, so the person before me had destroyed the threads on #1 =/ Thats all taken care of, but its after 10 here so Im trying to fit my exhaust before I start it, hopefully that will be in the next half an hour =D It is my 21st bday 2day, Ive got 3 hours before the bars close!

was the PI swap pretty easy if you are somewhat mechanicly inclined, like when i replaced the intake manifold? never took the engine apart passed that and was wondering if i could do it myself like i did the manifold.

The worst part is taking apart the front of the motor, the valve covers, and then getting past the nerves while timing the car.
*of course, I only took off the passenger side head on my car, and never had to deal with the other side of the motor, OR timing both sides.*

I'd look around for another head before putting the engine back in the car if I were you. I don't trust heli-coils. And you definetly need a tune, it will run like $hit without it. And even with the tune, you're not going to beat the TransAm, unless there's a HUGE driver error. Have fun anyway, though. The car will feel like a totally different animal.

helicoils are stronger than tapped threads in aluminum.
